Troop D

Troop D

Troop D is one of four original State Police troops established in 1917 and the site of Camp Newayo in Manlius, where the original 232 Troopers or "Campmen" were trained.  Their first official assignment was the New York State Fair, and for 12 days each summer Troopers still police the Fair, which draws visitors from throughout the northeastern U.S. and Canada.  Troop D's area is larger than the states of Connecticut and Delaware combined, featuring dense woods, and hundreds of miles of shoreline along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence Seaway.
